Introduction to Contingency
Contingency aimed to deliver an arena shooter in first-person view. It placed players in a sci-fi realm filled with speedy action and futuristic weapons. Designers built a solo campaign alongside competitive matches. The experience borrowed traits from classic space combat titles.
The plot followed humans on the brink of collapse. An alien horde drove survivors into hidden outposts. Missions sent an elite soldier across distant worlds and fortified bases. The soldier fought to reclaim lost ground.
Developers started with Unreal Engine three and moved on to version four. They invited supporters to contribute funds. The team developed maps and models and wrote code for years. The project ended before release and players never saw a final build.
